After months of not running, I'm back! Well, sort of. My doctor said that I can finally start running again, but only other day and working up from 20 minutes, to adding five each time I run. Today I ran for 30 minutes. It was quite nice, my legs were still sore from Sunday, but breathing seemed a bit easier. Running after having not for a while is proving to be rather difficult though. I'm supposed to run for 35 minutes this Thursday, and then run the 3 mile race this Saturday. I'm nervous, but somewhat excited. I finally get to run again, but it's still gonna be a long road before I'm completely back. With only three meets left I'm wondering if I'll be back or not.
Another day of Sunset Running,

Injured
I've now officially been injured for about 6/7 weeks, not quite sure which. My doctor says it's a stress reaction and if I run on it, it might become a stress fracture. He gave me something to wear on my leg and I'm supposed to be better either in two days or nine. The first cross country meet was yesterday and I took the times of my teammates.
I'm quite sad about not being able to run, but hopefully I'll be back soon. I'm a tad bit worried about getting injured all over again once I restart running. :( Track season is the one I do best at, but I want to do well in cross country as well.
Next Saturday is Woodbridge Invitational, after that is Dana Hills Invitational. I at least want to be able to run by Dana because I PRed at that race last year. I don't know how well I'd be able to do because I don't think my cardio is quite as good as it was before. I've been biking, but biking has become so much easier than running was.
Well, wish me luck.

Broken
My right leg is injured and this is my fourth week not running, but biking. I love to run and feel rather depressed about this. The first race is in a week and the beach run is in two days. It's likely I'll miss both of those. My doctor currently told me not to walk, or run. Biking, he thinks, is okay for now.
I had to get an x-ray of my leg and the radiologist didn't see any stress fractures or breaks, but my doctor is double checking. Hopefully that's good news and my leg will be better soon? I'll update when I find out, hopefully soon. I really want to run the first race. So badly, but I want to do well throughout the season and especially in track, so I probably won't end up running it. If anything, I definitely want to run the third race because I PRed at it last year.
Updates soon.

Physical Therapy
Shin splints.
The terrible, painful feeling that radiates up your posterior or anterior shin. It causes pain while running downhills, running in general, walking up stairs, walking down stairs, walking, sitting, sleeping... It pretty much just causes pain. It's been a year since I started running and I've had shin splints ever since. They go away when I take two weeks off, but then come back again.
So, recently my legs have been very mad at me and I began to fear stress fractures. My brother and I went to see a sports medicine doctor and he officially diagnosed both of us with bilateral posterior shin splints and prescribed physical therapy.
So, we scheduled some PT for today, and I went out on my run this morning as usual. We did some hill repeats and about 30 minutes of running not counting the hills. For the workout we sprinted up a big hill 6 times at 1 minute, proceeding to jog down and sprint back up after each one, and then 8 times at 30 seconds. It was a pretty good workout. Afterward, my legs were dead. I got home, took a shower, ate some lunch and headed out.
When we got to Physical Therapy it turns out they scheduled us for yesterday and told us today, but they managed to squeeze us in. The guy who was working on me seemed to know what he was doing very well and told me what was causing the problems and gave me some exercises to do to fix it. He still hasn't worked everything out, but I have hope for the future now. I'm supposed to go to PT three times a week and not run this Saturday. Not run... on the long run day??? How will I survive?!?
Well, I want to be faster and less injured, so I guess I won't be running Saturday. Oh well. My mother pointed something out that's pretty cool though, she said if I'm doing this well while being injured just wait until I'm all fixed up, I'll be much faster. To run without my shins hurting? Is it possible? I certainly hope so!
Wish me luck with my legs and the oncoming weekend without my beloved running.
Bye!

Mammoth
Alright, so I'll start out by telling you a bit about this Mammoth. Mammoth is referring to the high altitude mountain place, not the prehistoric creature. The top twenty of our team of one hundred and ten get to do high altitude training in Mammoth every summer. As I previously stated, the top twenty are the fast people. Too fast, if you ask me... Anyway, it is a real honor to be invited to train up in the higher altitude and a lot of fun.
This has been a goal of mine since last summer. It was alright that I didn't make it last year because I had just started, but this year is the year that I have to start picking everything up and doing a lot more. The sole objective in my mind to keep me going on runs was Mammoth.
So, I did the top workouts everyday, whether I was injured or not. I talked to my coach about whether or not I was close and he said I was definitely in consideration. Two weeks prior to the camp (yesterday), I found out that my coach had emailed all those who were going and I had not received an email. I decided to talk to him at practice and he said I would be going, but I hadn't responded to his email. (It was a test email to see if you check his emails every day). But, I did respond, I responded the morning he sent it. I showed it to him on my phone and later that day when he tried to send me the Mammoth info, it didn't come through. This was because the strange spelling of my name. He typed Scarlet, the other girl on the team, rather than Scarrlet (with two r's).
Long story short, after much technology failure, I got invited to Mammoth! I am super excited for it! It should be really awesome! And then when we come back to sea level, I'll be much better because of the training with less oxygen! How awesome! So, I'm super excited. Just shows you that you really have to work for things in life, and never let go.
See ya, peeps!

Cross Country Running
Hello all,
I am Scarrlet and this is my blog about running. I decided to create this blog because I couldn't really find any happy blogs about running. I'll start with telling you a bit about myself, shall I?
I am a sophomore in high school and I'm 14 years old. This is my second year running cross country. Last year I joined late and I have been injured with shin splints ever since (but keep running). I have never missed a single cross country or track meet. My times in cross country weren't all that great. I got 22:16 in my third race and that has been my PR(personal record) ever since. In track I ran the 400, 200, 4x400 relay, and 4x100 relay. My best 400 time was 63.3 and 200 was 28.05.
Between cross country and track I'd have to say that I like track better. It's a lot of fun and I'm pretty good at it. However, this summer (seeing as I joined at the correct time) I have been doing amazing in cross country. We have a team of 110 girls and the top 20 are known as "the fast people". This year I'm considered to be "a fast person" up there in the top 20. It's really exciting!
I have made so many friends and have had so many great memories from this sport and I love it to death (some times seeming to be literally). I'm looking forward to this next season and all the great memories and experiences I'll gain from it.
